We recently completed work on the latest room in a Grade 1 Listed apartment in London - the highest spec, tiniest kitchen we have designed! Every complexity that could be thrown at us came our way - the room was pentagonal, had a fireplace in it (which we had to keep), consult with English Heritage (who were fabulous), the walls and floors needed reinforcing and the room was only 2.5m x 2.5m to begin with!
We wanted a really sleek, streamlined 21st Century kitchen for our clients and something where the design would remain timeless. Bespoke, white painted handle-less units were made to fit the myriad of complex angles and to house no less than 8 appliances. We chose white Corian worktops with a moulded sink, added an Italian tap, LED under unit lighting, fabulous chocolate brown Amtico flooring, large travertine slabs as splashbacks, the wonderful Kartell Gé pendant light in glossy black and gold and even, and we still can't believe we did it, managed to get a small breakfast bar in!!!!! Adding lilac LED lighting above the units adds extra glamour and a wow factor in the evenings.
Keeping the use of materials and colours to a minimum creates the illusion of a larger space and blurs the boundaries (it truly feels so much bigger than when it was completely empty!), and adding lots of storage (some the pelmets under the units are also drawers) keeps the workspace uncluttered and ready for action. We are so proud of the kitchen, but more importantly, our clients are delighted with the results.
