What do you think of this bathroom? Does it fill you with joy or make you want to run for a can of white paint? Well, it makes my heart skips a beat. It's gorgeous. And I wish I had designed it!
It works because the material selection is kept to a minimum letting the drama shine out. The round black glass mosaics are grouted white, the counter top is a light marble and together with the basin, they tone down the deep tones, emphasising the contrast. Adding the gold lighting and brassware taps and fittings is genius - utter, uber cool luxury.
It takes confidence to pull off a design like this. It challenges the notion of decorating a small space in light tones to "make a room feel bigger". It's rubbish advice... in this small room, even the ceiling is black! The key to it's success is to create a mood, have a fabulous well planned design, use quality fittings and ensure good lighting, both natural and artificial. The minimalist cantilevered black framed mirror bounces light from the window (how many people would have gone for a gilt frame in this room?) and also reflects the gold statement suspended pendant. Recessed spot lights in the ceiling will impart task illumination, whilst the pendant defines to glamour.
TREND TIP: If you are designing a new bathroom, consider using 'brass finish' taps... it's the way forward! Ditch boring chrome and go glam!
