We went to see the last day of the Notice! Modern Art Oxford in Print 1966-2013 yesterday and loved the exhibition. Trained as a graphic designer, this show particularly appealed to me. I can spend hours gazing at posters and lusting over typography. Really interesting to see how the style of design has changed over the last 50 years. My favourites were from when MOA first opened in the 60's - bold block colour, iconic styling and virtually no imagery to convey the shows content at all. Moving through to the 80's, David spotted a poster for the Russian industrial exhitition he saw as a student.
My favourite, for Bartholomew Dudley "Short Stories", was a stunningly pieced together example showcasing beautifully placed typography, pared back posterised photography with a stylish linear look.
We've been visiting MOA fairly regularly, the highlights being without doubt George Shaw's curation of Graham Sutherland's "An Unfinished World" and Abraham Cruzvillegas's "Autoconstrucción".
